SITUATION:
The Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, formerly Madrid-Barajas Airport, is a Spanish public airport owned by Aena located in the vicinity of the city of Madrid, the capital of Spain. It is the first Spanish airport for passenger traffic, air cargo and operations, as well as the fifth in Europe and twenty-fourth in the world by number of passengers.
CHALLENGES:
The main challenge in this operation was to refurbish the complete area without closing the airport foot traffic. The old natural stones should be removed, the substrate repaired and the new stones installed over nights and without staining the new light natural stone slabs. The works were done in areas of about 100sqm each night.
SOLUTION:
Once the old natural stones were removed ARDEX A 35 Screed was the next step in the Madrid-barajas floor installation. ARDEX A 35 is an Ardurapid® cement (which means rapid setting and drying due to water combination inside the mortar) for floor screeds with a high compressive strength (≥35 N/mm2) wich was applied applied bonded to the existing substrate. The installation followed by placing the new natural stone tiles using ARDEX N23W, white natural stone adhesive due to the light color of the stones, and then grout with ARDEX MG Grout. ARDEX N23W and ARDEX MG grout were selected because of its Ardurapid® formulation, which allows the mortars to dry internally preventing moisture from staining the natural stone.

The Centro Especializado de Alto Rendimiento de Atletismo is a high-level sports facility equipped with two gymnasiums with a long jump, pole vault, high jump and launches. The outdoor area holds a devoted area for all test launches. The building’s floor areas needed to be aesthetically pleasing and durable. It also had to be easy to clean and easy to polish.
CHALLENGES:
- 2,800 square-meter installation area
- Two-month installation time frame
- Jointless floor surface desired
- Floor to withstand heavy foot traffic and rigorous cleaning
SOLUTION:
The project’s architect specified a jointless decorative floor with geometrical drawings etched into the surface. The architect also required a mechanically strong and wear resistant finished floor. Before the installation began, the Seire Sales Professionals visited the jobsite with Pavimentos MKI installers to check the floor’s support quality, joints and measurements. Seire recommended SEIREPOX IMPRIMACION Primer, SEIREPOX TERRAZZO with Arid Marble and SEIREPOX TERRAZZO Sealer. SEIREPOX TERRAZZO was developed specifically for installation in commercial premises because of its mechanical strength and chemical resistance making it the perfect product for the Centro Especializado de Alto Rendimiento de Atletismo.

Celeste Villa is a residential complex of 10 ultra luxury villas located on the Costa Blanca of Spain.
CHALLENGES:
The Mediterranean style of those luxury villas required a bright white finish wich stands abrasion (due to beach sand) weather and uv rays for long time. Also as vacation villas, soft anti-slip finish was needed which allows the customers to go around pools and gardens wihtout falling risk.
SOLUTION:
Seire has a wide range of resins from epoxy to polyurethane, polyurea and others that makes easy to find a solution in each case. The selected solution was based in aliphatic polyurethane resins in order to avoid yellowing due to UV rays. After priming with SIREPOX TOP PLUS (100% epoxy resin) the floor was leveled using the self-levelling polyurethane resin PROBITANO AUTONIVELANTE. Once the self-levelling polyurethane was cured, a coat of alyphatic ultra white polyurethane PROBITANO R20 was applied on top, this coat will give all the system the bright mediterranean look. The final step was to apply a thin coat of PROBITANO R ANTIRRAYADO mixed with very small glass beads to provide the anti-slip solution with a soft feel wich doesn’t disturb the villa’s users in their stays.

BBVA is the second most important bank in Spain. Their new headquarters buildings has been built in the North of Madrid during 2015 and 2016
CHALLENGES:
The Ardex/Seire consisted in the coating with an anti-slip solution of all the parking areas bellow the buildings. The solution must be anti-slip and very durable as thousands of cars were expected every day. The flooring needed smooth surfaces what was difficult as the concrete was very uneven.
SOLUTION:
The first step was to levell the concrete using ARDEX K14 primed with ARDEX P51. Due to its Ardurapid® effect included in the formula of ARDEX K14, next day the smoothed floor was able to be coated with Seire’s epoxy resins. The protection of the floor begun with the use of SEIREGROSSPRIMER as a primer and first coat of the multilayer epoxy system. Applied with gummy squeegee, just after the application, SEIREGROSSPRIMER is sandblinded building up an strong and durable solution, perfect for the high traffic expected. After brooming and vacuuming the excess of sand, the construction of the protection sytem follows with the use of SEIREPOX MULTICAPA (100% solids epoxy resin specially designed for multilayer systems) wich coaver the sand encreasing thickness. The SEIREPOX MULTILAYER is sandblinded again as in the former step. The system finish applying a new coat of SEIREPOX MULTICAPA which seal the surface.

Verallia, a world leader in glass, wine and spirits packaging, produces more than 25 billion bottles and glass jars each year for its more than 10,000 customers in 46 countries around the world.
CHALLENGES:
When producing glass bottles and jars lots of them broken and small glass pieces and glass sand is spread all over the floor. That glass sand is very aggressive to flooring and so a very resistant flooring was needed to refurbish the factory floors. Another challenge was that the floor must be very smooth and anti-slip. The job was done by areas in order not to disturb the normal activity of the factory.
SOLUTION:
Taking into account all the customer’s needs, the solution selected was to install an ARDEX R70P flooring. ARDEX R70P is a self-levelling polyurethane(pu)-cement mortar with a high mechanical (compressive strength> 45 N/mm2) and wear resistance (Abrasion resistance: Classified ‘Special Duty’ under BS 8204:Part 2: 2002(9)) which, although being very smooth, is absolutely anti-slip (pendulus test values >45). After mechanical substrate preparation according Ardex Application Guide, the floor was primed with ARDEX R3E moisture tolerant 100% solids epoxy primer. Once the primer was cured (approx. 8 h) 4 mm of ARDEX R70P were applied in one operation. This system was selected, in addition to its resistance, by its speed of application compared to the epoxy multilayer systems.
